David J. Huckabe
A native of New Haven, Connecticut, David Huckabe studied art and African History at Western Connecticut State University where he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration.

His current body of work, Daughters of the Aton, features mixed media paintings and prints that vividly fuse contemporary African women with African women from their glorious legacy.

A student of African History and spirituality, Huckabe combines ancient sculptures, temple pillars and floral motifs with today's African woman in the Diaspora. With acrylic paints, colored pencils and collage elements, Huckabe weaves a rich tapestry of ancient beauty with today's woman.

David Huckabe has exhibited with renowned artists such as, Leroy Campbell and Danny Simmons. He has presented artwork to African Historians Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan, Ashra and Merira Kwesi, Baaba Heru Ankh Ra Semahj Se Ptah and Queen Afua. Huckabe has been a featured artist in several showcase events such as the March of Dimes Art Auction, and the Madame C.J. Walker Celebrity Open House. His work has also been featured in the New Haven Register and the New Haven Advocate.

Huckabe's art also graces the private collections of filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee, director of 'The Best Man' and 'Undercover Brother,' musical artist and producer, Al. B. Sure, as well as other fine arts collectors throughout the United States.

I am inspired, influenced, and guided by the many facets of the African legacy in the Diaspora. My work is created with the intent of enlightening and beautifying galleries and living spaces. It is also created to promote, reclaim, and preserve the complete African Legacy. In my work, I blend elements of the past and present to create images that inspire the future. Ancient sculptures, temples and sacred writings meet today¹s Woman and Man in order to promote the obvious connections. --David J. Huckabe
